Are Experts Forward Thinking? Expertise as a Criterion for Selecting an Equilibrium Refinement Concept
نویسنده
چکیده
This study provides experimental evidence on using expertise of players in a game as a criterion for selecting an equilibrium refinement concept. Research in psychology on differences between experts and novices is used to motivate the hypothesis that forward induction could be a suitable refinement principle for games played by experts. This hypothesis is examined using a game of complete information where a combination of context and the subjects’ background is used to manipulate expertise. The experimental evidence shows that more experts than novices play in accordance with the predictions of forward induction. As a result, the unique equilibrium outcome consistent with forward induction is more prevalent in the games played by experts than in those played by novices. The possibility that the particular structure of the game creates a natural focal point that can confound the results is also addressed. Experts play differently when there are multiple equilibria consistent with forward induction with only the focal point to guide them.

Imperfect Signaling and the Local Credibility Test
In this paper we study equilibrium refinement in signaling models. We propose a Local Credibility Test (LCT) that is somewhat stronger than the Cho and Kreps Intuitive Criterion but weaker than the refinement concept proposed by Grossman and Perry. Allowing deviations by a pool of “nearby” types, the LCT gives consistent solutions for any positive, though not necessarily perfect correlation bet...
متن کاملType-Compatible Equilibria in Signalling Games∗
The key issue in selecting between equilibria in signalling games is determining how receivers will interpret deviations from the path of play. We develop a foundation for these off-path beliefs, and an associated equilibrium refinement, in a model where equilibrium arises from non-equilibrium learning by long-lived senders and receivers. In our model, non-equilibrium signals are sent by young ...
متن کاملThe Criteria of Economic Justice
Criteria, criteria and general areas make it easy to measure the concept through the index. The criterion of measurement may be derived from the causal or causal method. In this descriptive-analytical method through conceptual explanation, in this paper, four concepts of economic justice are first considered independently and attempted to present a standard a priori method for each concept in i...

Although globalization refers to the global scale, as in contrast to the local/cultural dimension, it is subject to cross-cultural interaction. Hence, globalization requires global thinking based on universal concepts which allow for cross-cultural dialogue and understanding. The interaction between regional thoughts is a sine qua non of global thinking and it requires the extension of thinki...
